Swimming In Debt

Make Some Extra Money Around Your Home

Megan | Leave a Comment

Are you trying to find a way to make extra money?  But the idea of finding a side job to make the extra seems a little daunting? Or maybe you need some extra cash quick? Did you know you could make some extra money around your home?

How to make some extra money around your home.

Want some extra money? Try finding it around your home.

HOW?

I bet if you walk around your home you would notice some items that:

  • never gets used
  • used maybe once a year
  • things that could be downsized
  • multiples of one item
  • too much stuff
  • kids have out grown it

These items are your extra money!!

You don’t use them or need them, so why keep them?

HAVE YOU REALLY THOUGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING

Sometimes getting rid of our physical items can be really hard. You could be emotionally attached to some items or afraid of what someone will think. But you need to move past the fears because you could really benefit!

Maybe you have multiple TV’s in your home, could you do away with some? Or maybe it’s another electronic? Or an extra car? Extra clothes? Used gear?

Something I tell myself is what do I want people to know me by our stuff or our adventures/dreams? Is this item displaying what I want? Or creating a false image? Is it or will it keep me from my dreams?

You could be thinking that seems a little extreme but don’t judge until you try it yourself. There was a time we had to have the big TV but after discussing it we decided that TV was not that important and it took up a lot of room. So we sold it and downsized to a smaller one.

THINK BEFORE THE PURCHASE

I know we are talking about selling stuff, not purchasing, but I feel this is important to help you sell thing later!

When we are looking at a purchase, there are times when we know this item will be used for “x” amount of time before we will not need it anymore. A big one for us is kid stuff; let’s use that as an example.

When we were having our second child we decided to purchase a double stroller. We purchased a nice Bob stroller on sale. I want you to notice that we did purchase a nice quality item! Four years later, we were down to only one kid needing a stroller. So we sold the double stroller. Are you ready for this? We purchased the stroller for about $475 (on sale) and sold it for $425 (the stroller was still in great condition). So we paid $50 for that nice stroller. I have sold almost all of our kid’s unused items (clothes, crib, stroller, etc…) and it’s our extra money from around our home?

MAKE SOME EXTRA MONEY AROUND YOUR HOUSE

The most common way to sell items from your home is by hosting a yard/garage sale or the local classified. I personally use the classifieds because I sell the items as soon as I notice that it is not needed. Take a walk around your home and see if there are items you could sell to make a little extra money. Did you find any or can you think of some?
